The ElePHPant and the snake

Veröffentlicht am 16. November 2008 (vor 1278 Tagen)

So php|works 2008 is coming to an end. Admittedly, the conference has ended yesterday, but since to that secret deal of the airlines with the hotel industry, I will not fly back home until tomorrow.

I will leave Atlanta rich in memories, and memories not only about PHP, the internet, and technology. Should I go into details? A part of me says yes, another part strongly suggests not to.

Raoul Painheimer, Paul Reinheimer is not only a rockstar, but also looks good in a suit, makes a perfect cushion, and posesses above average qualities as a kisser.

Ed Finkler, the Funckatron, now holds a new world record, with Terry Chay coming in only second.

What do Sara Golemon and Derick Rethans in common? Maybe you do not want to know. What happens in Atlanta, stays in Atlanta.

Damien Seguy, father of the elePHPant, has plans. If you are in good shape, and want to be part in something special and PHP-related, let him know.

The Wenzman spent more time in Charlotte than at php|works. Actually, he did not spend any time at php|works. He does not like fog, by the way.

Marco Tabini, Arbi Arzoumani and Sebastian Bergmann were spotted buying mature content (not what you may think, though), which means they were actually asked for ID at Best Buy.

I enjoyed the hot tub and the almost-as-hot pool a couple of times. And, believe it or not, PHP was also a topic! My two talks, Managing the software lifecycle of PHP applications and End-to-end Web Testing With Selenium were crowded, received exellent on- and offline feedback, and were, as always, fun to do. I am looking forward to next year. Come and see for yourself. You will leave rich in memories, I promise. And a lot of these memories are going to be about PHP.

And yes, I promised to put the slides online. Somehow, uploading content to Slideshare does not work for me. I tried several times, maybe the hotel has a firewall blocking uploads, or Slideshare really runs on Ruby ;-)

I will upload the slides as soon as I get back home.

Before you can dance

A lot has already be speculated about what percentage of existing PHP users would benefit from using HipHop. The numbers seem to range somewhere between 0% and 100%. I will not try a guess myself, but rather try to shed some light on some the most important prerequisites I think there are for a company to benefit from HipHop. (vor 834 Tagen)
