I am back from php|tek 09. Due to Lufthansa upgrading me to business class on the flight back from Chicago, I am rather coherent and reasonable today, which is good, given the fact that I am off to Berlin for two talks at IPC tomorrow.
tek09 was a great conference, and I am really glad that I could be part of it.
The code review workshop I did together with my thePHP.cc-partners Sebastian and Arne was well-received, and both my regular talks Seven Steps to Better OOP Code and Dissecting an MVC application got great feedback, and were both spotlighted on Slideshare. I bet this is just because I have made it a habit to use a nice background image on the first slide ;-)
By the way, there is a group php|tek 2009 on Slideshare, which hopefully soon contains the slides of all presentations given at the conference. The presentations of my fellow-thePHP.cc-ers are already there. Yours for the taking.
Wondering about the title of this blog entry? Well, where there is capuccino, there should be espresso as well, right? I got a coupon for a free coffee-based drink like cappuccino, latte, etc. from McCafe. Since I am an espresso addict, I asked the McD employee wether I could redeem my coupon for a plain espresso. She looked at me like I was wearing a blue elePHPant on top of my head. (Just to make sure, I quickly checked my reflection in the window, but I did not. I usually take them off before I go out.)
Ordering a capuccino without milk somehow did the trick.

A lot has already be speculated about what percentage of existing PHP users would benefit from using HipHop.
The numbers seem to range somewhere between 0% and 100%.
I will not try a guess myself, but rather try to shed some light on some the most important prerequisites I think there are for a company to benefit from HipHop.
